Mr. Pyka received his Juris Doctorate from U.C.L.A. in 1972 and was admitted to the California Bar the same year. After having obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Denver, Mr. Pyka spent two years in the United States Army. Mr. Pyka is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Central District of California and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Pyka has served on the faculty of the Orange County Bar Association's College of Trial Advocacy and has been a Judge Pro Tem for the Orange County Superior Court. He is a lecturer and panelist for the California Continuing Education of the Bar, the Orange County Bar Association, the Orange County Barristers and the National Business Institute. He has served as an instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. He is a panelist for the American Board of Trial Advocates "Masters in Trial" program. Mr. Pyka has been selected both by his peers and the Orange County Superior Court to arbitrate numerous cases.
Mr. Pyka has successfully completed more than sixty Superior Court jury trials with a winning percentage of over 90%. He was elected to the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates in 1983. Mr. Pyka has also received the highest rating (AV) by the largest and most prominent independent evaluator of legal ability, The Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
Mr. Pyka's extensive trial experience spans the entire spectrum of civil litigation including construction, wrongful termination, sexual harassment, auto, products liability, insurance bad faith, public entity defense and professional liability. Mr. Pyka's trials have included several multi-million dollar cases. In addition, Mr. Pyka has successfully represented the Santa Ana Unified School District since 1977 and has never lost a case.
Outside of his law practice, Mr. Pyka has volunteered his free time to a number of youth organizations. He served as corporate board president for the Southern California Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership, as well as regularly providing leadership to their annual state seminar. He has participated in the Constitutional Rights Foundation's Mock Trial program, not only as a judge, but as coach for a team for eight years.
